India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that he will bat “somewhere in the middle-order” in the upcoming day-night Test against Australia, starting on Friday, December 6 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. (Full Coverage | More Cricket News)
The decision also means the successful KL Rahul-Yashasvi Jaiswal opening partnership that proved massive for India in the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test will continue to open in the pink ball Test.
The 32-year-old looked brilliant and technically solid, scoring 26 and 77, as he stitched a crucial 201-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal during the second innings of the Perth game, which India went onto convincingly by 295 runs.
"He (Rahul) will open the innings. I will play somewhere in the middle," Rohit was quoted as saying by the PTI.
Rohit joined the touring party in Australia after a short paternity leave for the birth of his son, and the returning skipper said that the continuity would be beneficial for the team and is result, success oriented.
"We want result, we want success. Those two guys at the top they batted brilliantly in Perth.
"I was watching from home. Rahul was brilliant to watch. He deserves that place at this point in time.
